Laser Vein Removal

What is Laser Vein Removal?

By: Cosmetic and Laser Clinic

Laser treatments can effectively treat spider veins in the legs and face. Laser treatment sends strong bursts of light onto the vein. This makes the vein fade or disappear. Lasers are very direct and accurate. Most skin types and colours can be safely treated with lasers.

Laser treatment is more appealing to some patients because it does not use needles or incisions. Depending on the severity of the veins, two to five treatments are generally needed to remove spider veins in the legs. Generally 1-2 treatments are sufficient when treating the face. Patients can return to normal activity right after treatment. Sclerotherapy is used for spider veins larger than 3 mm.

Cost - $250 per treatment and up

Which Laser do you use?

We use the Cynosure Nd:YAG laser. It uses revolutionary technology and a cooling system allowing for the safest and most effective treatment.

Who is a candidate for Laser vein therapy?

Most skin types and colors can be safely treated with lasers.

What can I expect during the treatment?

The laser specifically targets superficial red blood vessels or deeper blue veins. The light energy of the laser is absorbed by the vessel causing inflammation and closure. Typically this treatment feels like the snapping of a rubber band with a strong heat sensation. We use a cooling system that blows cold air on your skin for optimum patient comfort.

What happens after the treatment?

Immediately after treatment there is some redness which typically lasts 1-2 hours. If we are treating larger veins on the legs occasionally a bruise can develop which can last up to a week and may develop into a scab. All side effects are normally temporary. If the skin becomes discolored, it will disappear within one to two months. You are able to return to regular activities immediately.

What results can I expect from the treatment?

The majority of blood vessels treated will be permanently cleared. In areas where there are many veins or areas that appear to look like a bruise, subsequent treatments may be required.

Will my veins be gone forever?

The veins destroyed during treatment are gone forever and rarely reopen, however this treatment does not prevent new blood vessels from developing at a later date. Many patients will return yearly for a touch up of any newly developed blood vessels.
Will the destruction of these veins cause problems at a later date?

No. Blood in varicose veins is moving backwards down into the legs instead of up toward the heart. This old blood is full of toxins that are recycling through the legs instead of returning to the lungs, liver, and kidneys to be removed. When these veins are destroyed, blood moves through functioning, healthy blood vessels.

Are Laser Vein treatments safe?

Laser Vein Therapy has been used for years, with many happy clients. The most common side effect is bruising of the vein treated. This generally disappears within a few weeks. Rarely are lasers the cause of scarring or pigmentation changes.

LEG VEIN – SCLEROTHERAPY

This is a technique for the permanent elimination of veins that involves the injection of various fluids directly into veins. This produces injury to the vein with resultant closure.

Cost - $150 per treatment and up

Who is a candidate for this procedure?

All skin types and colors can be safely treated with sclerotherapy. Patients who are diabetic or have venous insufficiency may not be candidates.

What can I expect during treatment?

Dr. Farooq will inject a fluid into the vein which causes the vein destruction. The discomfort is minimal. For a few days you should avoid hot baths, saunas, hot tubs etc. Dr. Farooq may advise you to wear support hose for a few days up to two weeks after the treatment. The area may bruise and possibly scab (this is unusual). Most clients find the procedure minimally uncomfortable. You may return to your regular activities immediately following treatment.

What results can I expect from sclerotherapy?

The veins treated may take a few weeks to disappear. At 4 weeks after the initial treatment, a second treatment may be required for larger or difficult blood vessels. Once vessels have closed, they rarely reopen. Clients with many veins may need multiple treatments to achieve desired results.

Will my treated veins return?

The veins destroyed during treatment are gone forever and rarely reopen, however this treatment does not prevent new blood vessels from developing at a later date. Many patients will return yearly for a touch up of any newly developed blood vessels.

What kind of leg veins can be treated?

Any vein large enough for the insertion of a needle can be treated. This includes large varicose veins down to tiny spider veins (correctly called telangectasias). These veins can be anywhere on the body, but are most commonly treated on the legs and face.
